MUSICAL RESOURCES

Musical resources for participants in The Rhythm Studio Foundation’s Primary Schools Rock & Pop Workshops Programme

After completing the RSF Primary Schools Rock & Pop Workshop Programme, we hope that we’ve inspired you to get more involved in music. There’s lots going on for local young people and here are details of organisations offering further accessible, fun music opportunities. Many of these organisations offer free or heavily subsidised tuition.

THE RHYTHM STUDIO

The Rhythm Studio is a music academy where students are inspired to develop their musical talents while learning to play and produce the music that they love. Our community of young musicians form bands, write and produce their own music, and perform at live gigs throughout the year. Our music school in West London is the home of full-time music courses for sixth form students, after- school and weekend classes, and school holiday camps.

Tri-Borough Music Hub

The award-winning Tri-borough Music Hub (TBMH) is the lead organisation that oversees the delivery of music education in three West London boroughs - the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham; the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea; and City of Westminster - working with schools, pupils, the workforce and the community.

The avenues youth project

Based on the corner of Third Avenue and Droop Street, The Avenues has been one of London's leading youth centres for over 40 years. It provides a safe space for children and young people aged 8 to 18 to play and socialise, develop friendships, acquire new skills, and receive advice, support and encouragement from our team of trained youth workers. Open after school, in the evenings, on Saturdays and throughout school holidays. All activities are free to access. Free guitar lessons available and facilities include music studio, dance studio and radio broadcasting suite (Avenues Radio Station).

THE NUCLEO PROJECT

The Nucleo Project was set up in 2013 to offer ensemble-based musical opportunities to children and young people in North Kensington, completely free of charge. It is part of the global El Sistema movement, which began in Venezuela in 1975. The Nucleo Project is open to any child who wishes to join the family. Students commit to an immersive and rigorous programme (children aged 7+ attend at least four sessions a week), which fosters rapid progress and high achievement, as well as strong bonds within the nucleo community and a truly transformative difference in young musicians’ day to day lives.

Children aged 7+ can join one of our symphony orchestras (playing violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba or percussion!). They attend four sessions a week (including musicianship or music theory).

THE RUGBY PORTOBELLO TRUST

Junior Club is a space for children to engage in activities such as arts and crafts, cooking, music, sports and fitness after school between 3.45pm and 5.30pm, Monday - Wednesday during term time.

Based at the iconic Camden venue, The Roundhouse Trust is a registered charity with an objective to provide ‘space to create’ for 11 to 25 year olds. It offers an open access programme of projects for young creatives including a full complement of music, performing arts and media projects.

THE OCTAVIA FOUNDATION
