RSF Scholarship Profiles - Kezia

It has been so helpful to have a place to perform, learn and develop my music and I have really benefited from the dedication of the teachers at The Rhythm Studio. Prior to joining the Rhythm Studio all of the playing and writing music that I did was solitary so The Rhythm studio has been such an important context for me to develop and receive feedback. Last term I made a video for one of my songs for The Rhythm Studio instagram which was a really great experience as I had never done this before and it was a really nice way of sharing and performing despite the inability to perform in person.

RSF Scholarship Profiles - Myla

Myla has held a RSF Scholarship for 7 years. She’s a multi-instrumentalist with a focus on singing, piano and guitar. Primarily a solo artist, Myla was crowned Future Sounds Champion at Bush Hall in January 2020 and will be going into RSF Patron and producer Guy Chamber’s studio to record a couple of her songs as well as playing a gig at the Yamaha store.

“Trying to narrow down my music taste is really next to impossible”, she says. “Saying that, I do really love rock bands from the 80’s like Motley Crue and Van Halen….Overall, if the song is good regardless of genre I will listen to it.” In her song writing, Myla’s influences include FKA Twigs, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Nina Simone, Alanis Morissette, Benjamin Clementine and Joni Mitchell. “All their music is so individual to themselves. The atmospheres and stories they create within their music really intrigues me.”
