SEAN MCKINNEY

GUITAR | BAND

Sean started playing music as a teenager growing up in Surrey; eagerly forming bands, playing and putting on gigs, and enjoying some local success and notoriety. Before being altogether convinced of his talent as a guitar player, Sean gained confidence and was spurred on by his success as a songwriter.

While studying for a Degree in Popular and World Musics at The University of Leeds, he continued to foster his ambition, performing regularly on the City’s ‘Open Mic’ circuit, as well as writing and recording original songs. During this time, Sean also featured as a host on the University Student Radio Station and wrote articles for local independent music publications.

Following university, Sean spent a year in Italy, working as a Music and English Tutor. Here, he received a crash course in education, developing and delivering course materials to students of all ages. At the conclusion of his time abroad, Sean moved to London to pursue a career as a singer songwriter.

He independently released his debut album ‘Quiet Lives’ in 2017 under the name ‘Morning Tourist’. Encouraged by the album’s positive reception, Sean quickly established himself as a singer songwriter on the London Folk Circuit, and also embarked on a run of European tours. During this time he has worked as a Band Leader for music school, Rocksteady. He has also lent his hand as a ‘musician for hire‘, performing with country singer Lisa Wright on Latitude Festival’s BBC Introducing stage.

More recently seen performing backed by his four piece band, Sean is excited to be recording his next ‘Morning Tourist’ album in the summer of 2020. He is particularly thrilled to be joining The Rhythm Studio, and is eagerly anticipating what exciting opportunities this next step has in store.
